When communication keeps breaking down, or a big change has thrown everyone off balance, family therapy gives every member of your household a safe, structured space to be heard and to learn new ways of relating to one another.
At Marriage and Family Wellness Center, we work with parents, children, teens, blended families, and multigenerational households. To ask a question or schedule a first session, call (956) 305-0823.
How Family Therapy Can Help
Family therapy looks at how the whole family works together, not just one person’s struggles. Many families come to us to:
Improve Communication
Build healthier conversations between parents and children, teens, or extended family members.
Reduce Conflict
Work through disagreements about behavior, school, screen time, or boundaries.
Strengthen Parenting
Develop parenting approaches that work, including co-parenting after separation or divorce.
Navigate Life Transitions
Adjust to a move, a new stepfamily, a loss, or a military deployment.
Support a Family Member
Understand and respond to anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma within the family.
What to Expect in Your First Sessions
Sessions usually last 50 to 60 minutes in a private, confidential setting. Depending on your goals, we may meet with the whole family, with parents only, with children only, or with individual members.
The first session or two focus on getting to know your family: what’s working, what’s hard, and what you’d like to change. From there, your therapist will suggest a plan with clear goals and check in on progress along the way.
Our Approach
Your therapist will choose methods that fit your family’s needs. These may include:
- Structural Family Therapy, which looks at roles, routines, and boundaries
- Solution-Focused Therapy, which builds on strengths and works toward specific goals
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which strengthens emotional connection and trust
- Cognitive Behavioral techniques, adapted for families
- Trauma-informed care, for families coping with loss or difficult experiences

Frequently Asked Questions
Who should attend family therapy sessions?
That depends on your goals. We often start with the whole family, then adjust, sometimes meeting with parents or children separately.
How long does family therapy take?
Every family is different. Some see progress in a few months, others benefit from longer support. Your therapist will review goals with you regularly.
What if my teen doesn’t want to come?
This is very common. Your therapist can help you plan a first step, and many teens open up once they see they won’t be lectured or blamed.
Is what we say confidential?
Yes, within the limits of the law and professional ethics. Your therapist will explain these during your first visit.
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
Call (956) 305-0823 and we’ll walk you through fees and payment options.
